Why can’t I bookmark an iTunes Store page?
Filed under Apple, Software on November 2nd, 2007
Do you often browse the Itunes Store aimlessly? Do you happen, now and then, to came upon some cool new record or audiobook that you consider for a future purchase?
Well, I do. And it frustates me to no end that the iTunes Store lacks the capabillity to bookmark a particular page and return to it later.
Amazon and eMusic both have a “Save for later” functionality. I know it’s not difficult to add to iTunes. Why, then, is it missing for so long? This is not the case of Apple not adding useless bloat. It’s the case of Apple not providing necessary functionality (and loosing some money in the process, since I would happily buy these records if I had an easy way to remind myself about them –see the P.S).
Shouldn’t this kind of functionality be taken for granted? It’s 2007 already.
Let’s hope iTunes 8 adds this.
P.S Yes, I know I can Control-Click on a record title and select “Copy iTunes Store URL”. I can then save the URL in another application, like a note-taking app. When (and if) I remember to later click it, it will take me to that particular page. I refuse to do this on the grounds that people should not do trivial tasks that their software should take care off in the first place.

My two workarounds are either to put it into my cart and buy it later or to create a “wishlist” playlist. You can drag the preview tracks to a playlist, and it’ll save them to link to the iTMS page again.
It’s still not perfect, but the wishlist idea does make some sense within the context of iTunes. (Granted, if you’re like me you end up with a bloated wishlist, but I’d have that no matter how they implemented the “saved for later” function…)

In fact you can - just drag the link you want to your desktop and you are done.
If you want to bookmark a page, then drag the navigation bar on top to the desktop.
Once you have done that you will be able to open the page you want by double-clicking the bookmark.
